Kea

The kea is a type of parrot that lives in the mountains. This omnivore forages in the forest, eating many species of plants as well as other birds, mammals and beetle larvae. The kea is wildly curious and intelligent, even approaching humans and stealing away with snatched items. It nests in natural tree and rock cavities. It is endangered, with population loss largely due to hunting to prevent kea from attacking sheep (which became illegal in 1970) and predation. It's Conservation Status is Threatened-Nationally Endangered.
